Design & Technology develops students’ conceptual understanding and enables them to develop creative problem solving skills within a wide range of technological mediums. The subject is inclusive of a wide range of student needs, interests and aspirations. It provides opportunities for students to develop design projects in areas of individual interest, to discuss equity issues related to design, production and manufacturing in the Australian society, and to consider careers in the fields of design, engineering or architecture.

Apart from the completion of Year 10, there is no prerequisite study for this course. However, students who have taken either Design & Technology or Industrial Technology in Years 9 and 10 would be advantaged.
The cost of introductory design projects and consumables are covered in the subject fees. However, the cost of the Mini Design Project and HSC Major Design Project is the student’s responsibility. Students need to determine the cost of the MDP and have parental support for payment prior to starting work.
