After 11 years of education your young person is now ready to begin the final part of their school journey. Senior school offers students an exciting opportunity to choose a pathway. A pathway that recognises that God created them as a unique individual. A pathway that will take them one step closer to discovering their passions and purpose. A pathway that allows them to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals.
Embarking on the HSC allows each student to customise their pathway. For many students the HSC pathway will take them to university. The direct path is via an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). Surprisingly, only around one quarter of students enter university via an ATAR. In recent years universities have become more diverse and accessible. The majority of students accessing university now achieve entry through alternate pathways such as direct entry as a result of in-school achievements, achievement in a ‘spotlight subject’, Vocational Education and Training (VET) , mature age entry, alternate admissions pathways or equity entry. Most university courses do not have prerequisites, leaving subject choices wide open.
Avondale School holds an excellent track record of academic achievements across the full range of subject areas. Our passionate teachers use their experience and expertise to inspire, guide and mentor students to achieve their personal best.
The HSC is also a pathway to trades and employment. Avondale School offers several VET options that allow students to pursue practical areas of interest that can be a pathway to university, to further trade training or to part time or permanent employment. We are also excited to offer our new HSC pathway, PROPEL. PROPEL is an individualised pathway to a career where students achieve their HSC but have the opportunity to explore their gifts and talents and apply them in a workplace environment. PROPEL helps students to launch their career without the pressure of exams and within the safety of a supportive school environment.
The HSC program allows each student to forge a pathway that suits them best. Each individual pathway, whether it races or meanders through the next two years, has the capacity to lead a student to university via multiple entry points, to a trade, to further training, or directly to employment.
All students must choose one of the following HSC pathways: Mainstream or PROPEL. As a Seventh-day Adventist school, all Stage 6 students will complete Bible as a part of their course of study.
All students must choose ONE of the following 2-Unit English courses:
In addition, students will also choose ONE subject from each of the following lines:
