Physical Activity and Sports Studies aims to enhance students’ capacity to participate effectively in physical activity and sport, leading to improved quality of life for themselves and others. Students develop a foundation for participation and performance in a range of physical activity and sport movement contexts. They analyse the role of body systems, physical fitness, nutrition and safety, and apply their knowledge and understanding when participating and performing in various movement contexts. Students demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the factors that limit and enhance their capacity to move and perform efficiently and develop their ability to transfer movement skills.
Students will study modules under three broad areas of study.
1. Foundations of Physical Activity
2. Physical Activity and Sport in Society
3. Enhancing Participation and Performance
Assessment in Physical Activity and Sports Studies is based on the three modules above and includes, but is not limited to, a variety of research and project activities, presentations, practical skill observations and a final exam.
The PASS course is an elective in Stage 5. This course lays a foundation that will benefit students looking to study Personal Development, Health and Physical Education and Community and Family Studies for their HSC.
