Avondale is committed to excellence. We understand that excellence looks different for every student. We are creating excellent tradesman, excellent scholars, excellent professionals and most importantly, excellent citizens.
Learning for life is our focus. School is a place to create a love of learning and realise potential. We believe in developing students who have the ability to think – think critically, think creatively and think for themselves. We believe in the famous quote by Henry Ford, “If you think you can or you think you can’t – you’re right.”
Lifelong learners is our goal. School is just the beginning – and our aim is to create a nurturing, loving, inclusive and safe environment that enables every student to achieve their potential and develop a love of learning.
The journey begins in Year 7 and 8 where the students are exposed to all the core subjects such as English, maths and science but are given opportunities in the creative arts arena, technologies, PDHPE and the humanities subjects. Year's 9 and 10 allow students to start making decisions around their course choices by allowing them to choose two electives in areas of interest. Year’s 11 and 12 is where students finally choose their complete suite of courses for their HSC. They can choose complete Science/Maths lines, a Humanity suite, or a mixture with even some Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses to add interest and practical elements. Students can design their own pathway while being guided and mentored through each decision by teachers, the career advisor and the Director of Learning. Distance Education is also an option for any student who has a particular passion not offered at Avondale School.
The options are endless and we intentionally allow student to forge their own pathway with options that can lead to trades and non-academic pathways, right through to courses and routes leading to high professional jobs such as doctors, lawyers and engineers.
We pride ourselves in having a curriculum that develops the whole person, creating a young adult ready to launch into Year 13 confident, prepared, excited and capable.
