STORMCo, which stands for Service To Others Really Matters, has been engrained in Avondale School for the past two decades, providing opportunities for students and staff to serve in a rural community.
STORMCo means Service To Others Really Matters Company. STORMCo is an adventure on service to the communities of people that we visit. This will be the 25th year that an Avondale STORMCo team has served Cobar - one of the longest continually running STORMCo partnerships in the world. We are very proud of that legacy of service, and the friendships we have built in Cobar. Community leaders in Cobar, in consultation with the team coordinators, decide on how we can best serve the town each year. During the day we run a Free Kids Club in the morning - something that Cobar have asked us to do for their kids who are on holidays. Then in the afternoon we mix with the local youth down at the “Youthie,” a Youth Centre with a skate park, basketball stadium, canteen and games room. We also take teams out on community service projects including helping local residents in the community in whatever way they need help. On Saturday we do our annual visit to the Lillian Brady Old Folks Home - a highlight, then on Sunday we visit all the local churches to support them. Each night we build our team through worship, reflection on what God has done through us to help others that day, enjoy the “Freddo Frog” awards, Secret Friends, Handprints, and lots of laughter. At STORMCo we make Jesus real through our kindness and our love, becoming His hands and feet and heart in very practical ways. Around 150 kids attend Kid’s club in Cobar, and it is one of their most-looked-forward-to times of the year. They love it when they see the STORMCo bus pull into town. Come and join this adventure of service with us this year!! It will change your life!
