All humans are wired with the desire to belong. We were created for community and we seek to connect with others. Belonging is sometimes thought to be the same as fitting in; that is, we belong if we share characteristics or have things in common. But if we seek to belong by changing who we are to fit in with the group, we lose our personal uniqueness. By changing who we are in attempt to gain acceptance, we end up feeling as though we are not good enough.
In contrast, true belonging is being accepted for who you are and welcomed into a group for all the things that make you an individual. Belonging means you are seen, heard and valued for who you are.
One of our focus areas for 2021 is Belonging. Our hope, our prayer, is that every student, parent, staff member and community member feels accepted, respected and valued. We love the uniqueness of each person and appreciate that our differences make us stronger.
In building a tolerant and accepting community we need to listen without judgment, learn to see things from different perspectives and most of all LOVE.
If you are new to our community, we are so glad to have you join us. If you have been with our school before this year, we are so glad you are still with us. You belong here. Let the journey begin.
The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don’t, the parts we see and the parts we don’t. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance. 1 Corinthians 12:25-26
