During Year 5 Music class this week students got to meet with Blake Robinson, a former teacher at Avondale School. Blake Robinson, also known as Blakus, is an award-winning Australian composer for media.
Currently, Blake spends most of his time working closely with directors and editors to create custom music for various video game titles and film projects. He recently won Best Music in a Trailer at the Hollywood Music and Media Awards. In addition, Blake writes production music that is heard every day in documentaries, TV shows, advertising campaigns and major sporting events worldwide.
Blake has been entrusted with the Star Wars brand over the last few years, with music featuring in over 25 trailers and short films. He has collaborated with directors and producers from Electronic Arts, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Respawn, DICE and Motive Studios.Blake has also created music for blockbuster movie campaigns such as Disney’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins Returns.
If you’ve been to our annual Community Carols, he created the music for the fireworks as well!
It was really special watching Blake compose a piece for a segment of film in the moment, adding layer upon layer of sound to create a dramatic sound. The students were encouraged, if they had passion for creating music, to simply start by using GarageBand and to begin their creative journey.
