The weather changed on the morning of our excursion so we moved from the Awabakal Environmental Centre to the Wetlands Campus. Year 4 learnt about places that are similar and different in the earth's environment. We focused on acquiring geographical information by observing and collecting data through fieldwork, using maps and spatial technologies. The students got to measure wind speed, temperature and rainfall. Students explored the history, climate, vegetation and animals of the Hunter Wetlands by participating in netting and viewing of the animals under the microscopes. They examined the importance of natural resources to the environment, animals and people, and learnt about the ways people value environments, including the Awabakal people. Despite it being a wet day, the students were engaged and had lots of fun.
