Last Thursday, the Makerspace room transformed into a science wonderland, thanks to Catherine from Newcastle Museum. Year 2 students put on their lab coats and embarked on a thrilling journey through the world of science with three engaging sessions.
Digestion Delight! The day kicked off with a fascinating exploration of the digestive system. Our young scientists learned how their bodies process food, turning snacks into energy. The highlight? Students volunteering with hands-on activities helping the oats, banana and coffee to go all through the body! It was both gross, educational and entertaining, sparking lots of “oohs” and “aahs”!
Explosive Pressure! Students eagerly observed and participated in experiments that showcased the incredible power of air pressure. Catherine demonstrated how pressure can create surprising effects—like bike-pump rockets, imploding cans and a marshmallow bazooka! This show about pressure really blew our minds!
Planet Earth Extravaganza! The grand finale whisked students away on a thrilling journey across our planet. Students were guided through the powerful forces that shape Earth, from volcanic eruptions and earthquakes to the formation of mountains and rocks. To cap off the adventure, the students crafted a tasty model of Earth's layers, reinforcing their newly discovered knowledge of our planet's wonders.
The day was a tremendous success, filled with laughter, learning, and a sense of discovery. Our students left with a renewed sense of curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the world around them. A big thank you to Catherine and the Newcastle Museum for bringing such engaging and educational experiences to our school. We hope this day sparks a lifelong love of science in our young learners!
