Our trip to the Crosslands reserve for our Year 12 Retreat proved taxing for all of the grade cohort, in the best way possible. With canoeing, swimming, treetop climbing, educational sessions from Dr Darren Morton and activities that stretched both our minds and bodies, we barely had enough time to eat and sleep!
Darren spoke about our wellbeing and the balance needed to live a healthy and happy life. His research and perspective in this area is amazing with his 'talk’ helping us to realise that ‘anything' is possible and that there are strategies to use that will help us live life abundantly. This focus at the beginning of the school year will help us achieve our goal in study but importantly to ensure we are able to be the best we can be.
In all seriousness, this camp was one of the best I’ve been on and helped bring my grade even closer together than we already were. The staff that came along were fun and inclusive, and made sure all of us had a good time. They loved to get in on the activities we were doing as well. Seeing Mrs Borgas fight for the title of Queen of the Hill on the inflatable pool worm is something I will never forget, and witnessing Mrs Venegas getting lowered from the flying fox after a mishap is certainly a memory I will never shake.
A big thanks to Mr Alt, Ms Kad and Mr Allan who challenged us with activities and made sure we were all involved in collaborating while doing these and competing against each other to be winners! All of us, teachers included, came away from the Crosslands Camp with aches and pains in places we didn’t know we could get them, and memories that we will hold close to our hearts forever. As a grade, we are hugely thankful to the teachers that put effort into making this camp fun and an enjoyable break from our school and study schedules. We couldn’t have asked for a better final school camp.
