This week, Year 11 students in the PROPEL program had the opportunity to immerse themselves in two valuable and memorable experiences as part of their English and Work Studies unit on Travel and Enterprise.
On Monday, the classroom came alive with a visit from Melissa at Avondale University Farm, who brought along seven adorable baby goats. Students were tasked with caring for the kids throughout the day, including bottle feeding, while Melissa shared insights into the farm’s history, their vision, and the process of goat breeding. The students capped off the experience by writing feature articles for a travel magazine, showcasing what the Avondale University Farm has to offer.
The following day, students shifted gears to refine their workplace communication skills by conducting interviews. From welcoming guests and engaging in small talk, to showing them around the PROPEL space and taking notes during interviews, students practiced a range of essentail skills in a real-life context as they gathered data on the travel experiences of individuals. These hands-on experiences would not be possible without the support of our school partners, and we are immensly grateful for their contributions to our students’ learning journey.
