The Year 11 Biology students enjoyed some time in nature last week, exploring the rocky shore of Catherine Hill Bay. The practical investigation had them studying intertidal zones on a rocky shore, identifying species present, gathering data to compare biodiversity between the zones, and identifying factors affecting the organisms in each zone. The students and teachers enjoyed the fresh air and practical aspect of the day, with some seeing certain species for the first time. Field trips are an integral part of the Biology course, giving students the opportunity to learn and practise a range of scientific skills that deepen their understanding of the topics covered. We are grateful to Dr Jason Morton for sharing his time and wisdom with us on the day. Jason has many years of experience studying rocky shore habitats, and his willingness to help inspire budding young scientists is appreciated.
