The sun bounced off the water, beckoning all to enter. The sounds of the carnival permeated the air. Students jockeyed to the start line. Whistle, then horn, signalled the chance for glory. Whether breaking swimming records or displaying a can-do attitude, students entered the water to score valuable points for their House teams. Parents and peers cheered from the sidelines as students splashed towards victory. Staff gave amusing commentary on the events and checked if my head was overheating in the sun, and parents offered to buy me baseball caps to help. Laughter, good conversation, and the constant celebration of our students comprised the business of the day.
This week’s Primary Swimming Carnival gave a clear example of just some of the things I appreciate about our school team – the team that is made up of our student families and school staff, working together to do what is best for our children.
The scene of the carnival reminds me of the Latin motto for the English football team, Arsenal, which says: 'Victoria Concordia Crescit' - Victory grows out of harmony. It is in our harmony as a school team that we will continue to bring victories for our children. I cannot wait till our next team event.
