Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Radio RhemaFM with a group of Avondale PROPEL students. This prominent Christian radio station in Newcastle provided us with a firsthand look at its operations, historical roots, and significant role in supporting and uplifting the community.
RhemaFM began in the early 1970s when a group of passionate Christians felt the need for a dedicated station to broadcast messages of faith, hope, and love. Despite numerous challenges, their unwavering commitment and persistent prayers led to the station's establishment in 1978. Since then, its mission has been to share the love of Christ and provide spiritual nourishment to its listeners.
RhemaFM relies on a June appeal called Rhemathon, an annual fundraising event crucial for the station's operations and outreach programs. This appeal is not just about raising funds but also about uniting the community in prayer and support.
Highlighted to the students and currently showing is cinemas is the Christian movie 'Unsung Hero'. This movie follows the success of the King and Country band, highlighting the profound impact of individuals who serve faithfully behind the scenes and contribute significantly to God's kingdom through their quiet dedication.
This mission of RhemaFM aligns beautifully with Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV): "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden... let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Like a city on a hill, RhemaFM shines the light of Christ into the lives of its listeners, offering hope and spiritual guidance.
Our visit to RhemaFM was a powerful reminder of the impact of faith, community, and dedicated service. The station’s history and ongoing mission reflect the biblical call to be a light in the world and embody the spirit of 'Unsung Hero' – demonstrating how ordinary people can make extraordinary contributions to God's kingdom through their unwavering commitment and faith.
