PROPEL students had the opportunity to visit Radio Rhema Newcastle this week as part of their English Studies course. The staff at Rhema facilitated a fantastic day that included going live on air during a show, a site tour of the various elements that are part of a radio station, breakout sessions with the CEO, content creators and liaison personnel. Students learned about the purpose of community radio, the history of Rhema and their mission and vision for Christian radio in the Hunter. The final activity of the day saw students work in small groups to create and record a news story using the same stimulus material but targeting different audiences. Each group then recorded their news story in the studio and compared with each other, highlighting the bias that position and target audience can contribute to. We are so grateful to the team at Rhema for providing such a rich and enjoyable learning opportunity.
