The word legacy is often defined as "the long-lasting impact of particular events and actions". At Avondale School, one such legacy is our cherished tradition of the Kindy Concert, which has been one of our defining moments for students, staff, and families for over 20 years. This treasured event exemplifies how meaningful actions can continue to shape lives and our community.
Each year, the Kindy Concert serves as a milestone for our youngest learners, marking the end of the first year of their educational journey with joy and purpose. Words like "With open hands and open hearts, I will serve you, Jesus..." are sung with enthusiasm and faith by these little ones. These songs are more than performances; they are heartfelt declarations of Avondale’s central purpose: to glorify God in all we do and to serve Him by creating a nurturing, faith-filled learning environment for our children.
This beautiful tradition began two decades ago when Coralie Fraser responded to God’s calling to create a musical event that would honour Him. Her vision went beyond the idea of a performance—it was an opportunity for children to proclaim God’s goodness and experience the joy of spreading the message of the real meaning of Christmas, led by our youngest learners.
The Kindy Concert, provides children with an opportunity to develop valuable skills. Confidence blossoms as they take the stage, while collaboration, communication, and creativity flourish during preparation. Such soft skills nurture are a part of a love for learning and a sense of accomplishment that extends far beyond the concert itself. What a deep sense of community such events bring! Families gather to support and celebrate their children, creating a shared experience of faith and joy. These moments not only strengthen the bond between home and school but also remind us of the shared mission of faith and learning that unites us.
The dedication of Kindy staff like Sonya, Jeannie, Coralie, Sally, and countless volunteers like Rachel, Lily, and Gibbo has ensured that this special tradition continues to thrive. Their efforts are not for personal gain but to help students understand the true message of the Christmas story through this beautiful practice and performance. And this is continued through the Year Levels with staff and parent collaboration. What a wonderful season to reflect on God's faithfulness and to celebrate the legacy of the gifts He has given us. And yes, prepare to find yourself singing concert songs well past the end of the season.
May God help to give us all a dream to serve and follow Him.
