This week, and in the coming days, we are celebrating important milestones. Kindy Concert, a milestone at the conclusion of our children’s first year of 'big school'. Year 6 and Year 12 Graduations, milestones that recognise and celebrate the end of a season, and the beginning of a new adventure in our children’s lives. Even the conclusion of a school year is an important milestone in the lives of every one of our students, as we remember the highs and lows of another year, celebrate the growth and achievements, and look forward to what a new year holds in store.
For us as staff, each of these milestones help to remind us why we do what we do. They point us back to our purpose and our mission. Simon Sinek, a well known author and inspirational speaker, talks about the importance of knowing our WHY – the purpose, cause or belief behind WHAT we are doing. For us as staff and educators, the WHAT is educating children and equipping them with knowledge and skills to be successful, life-long learners who can contribute to making our world a better place. But our WHY? Our WHY is to make a positive impact on the lives of children through a revelation of the character and love of Jesus. This is what drives us. And as we celebrate important milestones at the conclusion of what has been a challenging year in so many ways, we reflect on our WHY, and it inspires us to keep persevering, keep believing, keep hoping, keep loving, and keep doing what we do.
As we head into the Christmas season, we are reminded of God’s WHY. God saw a sinful and broken world, and longed to restore and redeem what was lost. So, He sent His one and only Son, Jesus. And He did this because of an all-consuming love for you and I. What is God’s WHY? You are God’s WHY. May you reflect on the incredible love of God this Christmas, and may you know that you are the desire of His heart.
