What if I fail?
What if I’m not good enough?
What if I never receive what I'm praying for?
The Year 12 students finally got to start their HSC exams on Tuesday this week. Each of them has probably experienced the stress and anxiety associated with fear. The fear of the 'what if’s' and unknowns of the exams and future can be a scary and challenging time.
But we know that there are only two ways to live this life. To live in FAITH, or live in FEAR.
The Bible tells the story of Jesus walking on water towards his disciples who are in a boat. His disciples see Him and He tells them not to fear. Peter then replied saying “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” Jesus said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”. Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:28-31)
Peter didn’t have faith in himself. He doubted his ability to be like his teacher, Jesus, even though Jesus called Peter out onto the water! Jesus had faith in Peter’s ability, yet Peter didn’t believe in the power Jesus gave him, so when the fear of the waves hit, he began to sink.
The power of living in faith means you can have faith and confidence over fear to achieve the things that God has called you to do.
Our Year 12 students have been through such a tough year, one of uncertainty and numerous deviations from the original plan. They have learnt to have faith, to be persistent, have resilience and the tenacity to keep pressing on. They have developed the characteristics that Avondale School graduates possess and we are proud of them for pushing forward and leaning in.
So whether it’s walking on water, passing your HSC exams, or whatever fears you may face… step out in faith, knowing that Jesus called you to it, so He has faith you can do it too.
Mark 9:23 "...Everything is possible for one who believes."
Prayers and best wishes to our Year 12 students … have faith that you and God have got this!
