Several years ago Primary students were visiting my office to choose prizes. One of the highly prized items in the box was small tubes of glitter. One young student selected a tube of glitter and excitedly bounced out of my office with her new treasure. She returned almost immediately, holding up a near empty tube and proclaimed that she had run out of sparkle.
Perhaps you can relate. It’s been a busy year that has followed two very tough years for everyone. As we reach the end of the 2022 school year, we are so proud of all the extra things that we do that provide wonderful opportunities for our students: camps, musical performances, special event days, excursions, sports carnivals and competitions, chapels, Community Christmas Carols, Closing Celebrations…and the list goes on. All of the extra things that we do as teachers and parents are enough to make us feel depleted; like we’ve run out of sparkle.
I had replaced my young friend’s tube of glitter and walked out into the foyer area, and the sight that greeted me made me smile. The sun was reflecting off a beautiful trail of sparkly glitter. It was a delightful moment. Perhaps when we feel like we have no sparkle, it’s because we have poured into the lives of those around us. Our loss of sparkle may be a blessing to someone else.
As you hit the Christmas season, I want to thank you for your support of Avondale School. We are so blessed to have such an amazing, supportive community. We love partnering with you to grow young lives. I also want to challenge you to take time to rest and find renewal. We all need to get our sparkle back, especially at Christmas.
But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, they run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind. Isaiah 40:31
