I was staring out the window of a train watching the English countryside fly by when I was rudely interrupted by the rumbling discontent coming from the depths of my stomach. It was an audible communication that my hunger was open for business and desired for me to supply its customers. Well, I was a student, so my travelling food and I deemed my mid-morning snack would be yoghurt. A sweet, smooth, creamy, tasty strawberry yoghurt. I reached for this quencher of rumbling stomachs to find there had been no spoon supplied with it. What was a young man to do in this predicament? You guessed it... I peeled back the yoghurt lid and smashed my face into the yoghurt, trying to adapt to the lack of spoon but instead making a real mess. It was right when I was at the yoghurt trough, that my friend Josh came and sat in front of me. Josh had seen me from a distance and used this opportunity to come and say hello. I raised my eyes up from the yoghurt to greet him - my eating shame was all around my face and there was even yoghurt on the tip of my nose. I could see my old friend was looking at me and wondering why I hadn't been using a spoon.
I have found over the years that everyone experiences moments of embarrassment or even judgement, when misfortunes or ill-decisions are clear for all to see. As a school, we believe that God has seen all our mistakes, even those that others choose to judge us for, and He still accepts us. He does not expect us to be perfect, and He instead sent His perfect Son to cover our mistakes. So, next time something does not quite go to plan, choose to have a chat with God. He is listening and He accepts you just the way you are.
“For God sent His Son into the world not to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:17
