I LOVE chocolate but when my youngest son was a pre-schooler I made the decision to avoid giving him chocolate and other sweets. However, when Easter rolled around, his Nana presented him with a chocolate bunny wrapped in brightly coloured foil. He clutched his new treasure tightly and, when I suggested that we peel back the foil so he could taste the chocolate, he was horrified! He wanted to hold his bunny and play with it, but had no intention of eating it! After some persuasion, he eventually agreed to taste the chocolate. Once he tasted the chocolaty goodness his world changed forever.
At Easter time Christians the world over reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus. We are in awe that Jesus was willing to die to pay the price for our sins. We understand that by accepting Jesus’ sacrifice, we have new life. We appreciate the value God places on each of us. We celebrate Jesus’ resurrection as proof that God has power over death.
I wonder how you respond to this Easter message. Have you unwrapped it for yourself and tasted its goodness? Or are you holding it still tightly wrapped without truly enjoying all that it offers, without experiencing for yourself the joy that comes from knowing that you are loved, chosen and redeemed through the death of Jesus?
Why not peel back the layers and taste for yourself? Who knows? Your world might be changed forever too.
O taste and see that the Lord is good. How happy is the man who trusts in Him! Psalm 34:8 NLV
