At the moment we are focused as a community on reducing transmission of COVID-19. Our efforts with hand-washing, hand sanitiser, cough etiquette and masks all have one goal; preventing us from catching and spreading COVID-19. But there are things we want our students to catch. Spaces where high transmission rates are actually the goal.
We want our students to catch our passion for following Jesus. When young people view themselves as children of God, His amazing creations, loved beyond measure, worthy of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, their lives take on new meaning and value. A life lived in partnership with God is life-changing. It allows our students to frame their identity in God and feel part of something bigger than themselves.
We want our students to catch a love of learning. Life requires us to adapt, grow and learn in order to survive. Learning sometimes feels hard, but we want our students to catch the passion of teachers. Each of our teachers not only love to teach, they also love to learn. We know that our students will need to be life-long learners as they enter a rapidly changing world and we are intentional about cultivating a love of learning. As we make learning experiences real and student-centred, we aim for our students to catch a love of learning, to be curious and to become confident life-long learners.
We want our students to catch kindness. "In a world where you can be anything, be kind." - Etta Turner. As our students experience kindness, care and compassion, we hope they catch the desire to be a kind and caring human. God calls each of us to show compassion to those around us and to serve - to be like Jesus to our world.
My great prayer is that as our students catch a love for Jesus, a love of learning and a love for serving others. Not only will their lives be rich and happy, but they will become world changers, light to the world.
"You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colours in the world." Matthew 5:14 MSG
