SECONDARY (YEARS 7-12) INCLUSIVE EDUCATION TEACHER
Parental Leave - 12 Month Contract - 0.6 FTE


Avondale School is a Preschool to Year 12 independent School, owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The school is located on an expansive rural campus in Cooranbong NSW, in the Lake Macquarie area. With a history of providing quality Christian education for over 120 years, our mission continues to focus on providing opportunities for students to know Christ, develop their full potential and cultivate a love of learning.

Our Secondary Campus is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and enthusiastic Inclusive Education Teacher to join our team commencing in January, 2025. This position is covering a 12-month Parental Leave vacancy working 3 days per week.

Essential Criteria

  • Model and nurture an active relationship with Jesus and demonstrate a commitment to the ethos and mission of Avondale School.
  • Hold relevant postgraduate qualifications in special needs education.
  • Have the capacity to work within a cohesive department consisting of Teachers Aids and Inclusive Education teachers.
  • Have experience working in mainstream special education settings including programming for, and working with students who have substantial and extensive individual needs.
  • Demonstrate respectful and inclusive work practises.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create a positive culture of challenge and support, enabling effective teaching that promotes enthusiastic, independent learners.
  • Have a clear understanding of legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Disability Standards for Education and Child Protection legislation.
  • Be fully conversant with the National Disability Insurance Agency and advocate for families to access support under the National Disabilities Insurance Scheme.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and with others to build a professional learning community that is focused on continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
  • Have the capacity to test, gather, read, and use data to implement quality inclusive education programs across a Secondary campus.
  • Be able to liaise with classroom teachers to assist and advise curriculum adjustments for students with complex learning needs.
  • Have experience supporting students with additional needs during key transition times.
  • Possess a strong work ethic, striving for continuous improvement and the achievement of high standards.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of ‘Duty of Care’ and place a high value on child wellbeing.
